Day 2 - Carolina Beach State Park, North Carolina
Very interesting drive, weather wise, from Harrisburg. From Harrisburg to Northern Virginia there were warnings posted every mile about coming winter storm and icy road conditions. As I took over driving near Germantown, MD snow was beginning to fall and by the bridge into Virginia it was very sloppy driving. By southern Virginia into North Carolina the temperature began to rise reaching 65 at one point. We arrived at the state park in beautiful weather. We opted to explore rather than eating out at a restaurant and I am glad we did. What a great system of trails there were to explore. The campground is located near a marina on Pleasure Island. Virgil and I had our first chance to stretch our legs. There were so many birds to listen to. I saw a sign near the marina that said a study of the Indigo Bunting had been done on Pleasure Island. I did not see any Buntings. Scott and I also heard an owl hooting and were standing near or possibly under the tree it was in but couldn't see it. I said Pauline probably would pick it out immediately. As we passed the tree it picked up hooting again. If we stay a second night here, I plan on exploring some of the other trails in the campground.
