Friday, September 15 - Versailles!
After much research by Scott, we boarded the right train to start. The train was very crowded and it was difficult to determine which stops were being called out. We got off at the right stop but the next challenge presented itself. As I stayed with our luggage Scott went off to try and find someone to help us get through the gate. There were many that were confused as to how to get through gate, speaking French too. Scott was gone a long time, and I was getting concerned. He was experiencing one of the many French who went out of their way to help us get to where we were planning to go. Another found a person to unlock one of the restrooms when I was greatly in need of one. Restrooms here all require payment to enter and the one in question required ticket and would not deal with scanned ticket from phone. We got an Uber from the train station to the hotel. What a beautiful and bustling city Versailles is. We walked from the hotel to where we were to pick up the bike tour on Saturday. The palace is very impressive as all the surrounding areas are. We had not eaten since the small breakfast served on the plane before arrival around 4 am. So we stopped at this Cafe along the route and ordered a large beer each along with a food order. This was around 4 pm. Our waitress came back around the time we were half through our beer to say the kitchen was closed and wouldn't open for another hour. The waitress had assumed we would hang around until the kitchen opened back up. In retrospect we should have done that but off we went to visit Gordan Ramsey's restaurant which was also quite impressive. We then went back to the hotel to eat a sandwich at the bar and dinner is not served at the hotel until 7:30. We then ended up heading back out to a place across the street from the hotel that didn't start serving dinner
until 6. We had very good hamburgers and fries. After that I went promptly to sleep for the night.
